Ways to visit Roman Forum (Foro Romano)

The site is most often visited on three-hour tours that combine a visit to the ancient city with a Colosseum tour. Whether you choose a private tour or small-group tour, it's wise to visit with an expert guide who can help you navigate the large space and bring the ruins to life with true stories of gladiators, Roman emperors, and Julius Caesar. After your visit, check out the adjacent ruins at Circus Maximus or pay a visit to the Capitoline Museums to see the display of classical Roman empire sculptures.

Skip-the-line Colosseum Tour with Roman Forum & Palatine Hill
We are glad we booked this tour. The stories, the insight and information regarding those ancient Roman places have enriched our understanding and gave us a good perspective on culture in those times. Our guide Marzy was very professional, informative, engaging and answered all questions that came from our group. She made it all a very enjoyable tour. Highly recommended!

Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum Guided Tour | Skip the Line Tickets
Eddie was our guide and I have to say he was one of the best tour guides I’ve ever had. He did such a great job of explaining the necessary stuff and putting all of the information into a digestible nutshell rather than a heap of information that left you with a headache. Make sure to book an earlier tour to avoid the crowds and the heat! Couldn’t have asked for a better day

Skip the Line: Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill Tour
If you like history, this is a must. Our tour guide was Donald and he was spectacular. Very knowledgeable, very funny, and very nice. He was able to answer any questions people had and pointed out some things that I never wouldve even noticed with it. You get to see virtually all the coliseum and forum/hill. A great tour all around.

Great experience, tour guide was fantastic and knowledgeable. Added touch of showing photos on tablet really gave an insight into the history of the colosseum. Bonus points for personally interacting with everyone.

Colosseum Underground and Roman Forum Small Group Tour
Gigi was an excellent tour guide. Loved his sense of humour and his extensive knowledge. It was a great tour my only disappointment was we had booked a small tour for 6 people and somehow we ended up in a group of 25.

Exclusive Gladiator Arena - The Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum Tour
It was definitely worth the skip the line tickets & our guide was informative and clearly knew a lot about the history of the places we visited. He ensured we got plenty of photo opportunities in less busy spots. We spent most of the tour at the Colosseum but still had time to explore The Forum once the formal tour ended. For an afternoon tour we would recommend not expending too much energy in the morning as the tour is comprehensive.

Discovering the Roman Forum Ruins

Inside the archaeological area, stick to the Forum’s main thoroughfare, Via Sacra, to pass by important ruins such as the Julia Curia and the house of the Vestal Virgins. Some of the forum’s most impressive ruins include the white marble arch of Settimio Severo, the first-century Arch of Titus, and the remains of the Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine. If you can’t get enough of ancient Rome, there’s plenty more history just outside the city with day trips available to Pompeii and the Appian Way.
