Full of knowledge
Demetra_F, May 2023
Our tour guide Beto was awesome. He's extremely knowledgeable about the Chichen Itza and its people. There is a double ride, so definitely bring a book. I don't suggest this excursion for kids/ youth due to its extreme length. The tequila tasting isn't really a tasting ( you get to try 2 tequilas of their choice and they give you a tiny bit). Also bring cash bc the buffet requires you pay for drinks in cash and you'll need it for souvenirs. Our second van to the hotel didn't show up but 5 stars to Raul Cabrera who had his own 3 groups to drop off but volunteered and took our 3 groups back to the hotel.. all in all it's a good excursion. Bring water, a book, and be prepared to learn. Definitely 4 stars 🌟
Never got picked up. Horrible experience! No Refund
Bhargavi_T, May 2023
The tour operator never responded to me. I was unable to add my pickup location both on the website or the app. I waited at the location that showed closest to me however it was the wrong pick up location and I never got to take the tour. I was also not provided a refund stating some untransparent scrutiny process!!!
Go for it!
Lataisha_A, May 2023
Awesome excursion! Lots of good info, great stops along the way (one stop was an obvious cash grab but hey 🤷🏽‍♀️ it was quick and harmless...not too much pressure...at least no more than anywhere else). Buffet was good and cenote was fun and memorable. I would recommend it for sure!
Amazing tour guides!
Oscar_M, May 2023
I’ve done similar tours like this one in the past and they are always quite similar but what really stood out from this tour were the tour guides. Frank was super helpful and kind on the bus and other sites. Rodrigo gave us the tour at Chichén Itzá and was just incredible. I loved how he shared the history of the pyramids and also talked about his personal experiences with living in the area and being Mayan himself. It was a powerful story and one of the best tour guides that I have ever had in all of my previous tours, he was truly the game changer! I’ve been to Chichén Itzá multiple times in the past and only came here because my friend had never gone and I learnt so many new things thanks to Rodrigo and it just made the tour 20x better, highly recommend!!
Great experience

Great experience! It was hot but the experience was phenomenal! It was a 3 hours there and back! However our tour guide and driver was amazing. The food was great and the Cenote was fun. Our tour guide frank was very knowledgeable’

Missing Customer Service
Velma_O, May 2023
I was unable to participate in the tour and advised the operator >12hrs in advance, asking for a future credit. I had plans to revist the area in ~2 months. Operator kept repeating the policy and cancelation window, which I was well aware of, but surely there is room for accommodation especially as I was not the only person scheduled for the tour. This lack of customer service, and unnecessarily aggressive communication style (repeating policies that are not being questioned, and not part of the customer facing side) was off putting.
Amazing Day

Chichen Itza and Tour Guides great, everything else mediocre at best.
Rebecca_G, May 2023
We booked the 8:00am tour for May 17th, 2023 and received an email the night prior noting that we would be picked up at 8:15. The bus did not pick us up until 8:45 and at 8:30 I contacted the whatsapp number of the tour company to ask if the bus was on its way. I did not receive a response until hours later. Considering they give you a 5 minute grace period, being half an hour late with no warning is not great. After being picked up we were then transferred to another bus in which we met Marcella our guide. She was friendly, knowledgeable and had lots of energy and jokes. She made the trip enjoyable. We went to a small town for 30 minutes and this could have been extended longer. We spent most of the time buying chocolate (recommended by Marcella as best in Mexico) and it was a shame we didn’t have more time to explore the beautiful town and the church. Next we drove to another spot the one with coffee rolls. This was a tourist trap. A place to buy very overpriced souvenirs. We were here for an hour and we were told we were not allowed to wait inside the air conditioned bus and instead to sit in the heat. We then went to Chichen itza which was the only reason this tour got a 3 star rating (other than the guides, they are 5 star). We had Rodrigo as our guide and he was incredible. A Maya himself and someone who had been inside there is no one who could have given us a better tour. So knowledgeable so passionate. We were here for 2 hours and spent about 1h20mins with Rodrigo and the remaining time to explore and take photos. This was perfect timing for me personally. We then drove to the cenote. The cenote is a far hike down and back up, 91 steps and you have no choice but to wear a life jacket. The stairs/platform did not seem overly sturdy. The cenote is dirty and unappealing visually and would recommend going to a different cenote in the area as there are much better ones. Keep in mind these are freshwater so the fact that it appeared dirty is concerning. Here was also the ‘lunch’ restaurant. More like an early dinner at 4pm which is actually 5pm considering the 1hr time change you drive through. Drink, even water, is not included and the staff will tell you that you cannot drink your own water that you brought with you. Further, if you have an allergy (as I stated when booking) no one will help you. I am gluten free and I asked multiple of the restaurant staff what I could eat and they were clueless. Bring your own food if you have a severe allergy. We ended up waiting around in the hammocks for 2 hours as there is nothing else to do there if you aren’t swimming in the unclean cenote. We then drove back and arrived at our hotel at 10pm (and we were the second stop). We had plans at 9:15 to attend Coco Bongo (highly recommend, 5 stars) and missed our transportation there. A tour that starts at 8am and is 12 hours long should have given us plenty of time to make the transportation, but no we missed it. If the tour is advertised as 12 hours it should end shortly after 12 hours.. not 14. We incurred a $30 taxi ride and missed a significant portion of the show because of this tours lateness. If you are going on this tour do not make any other plans and make sure you bring snacks.

Must do trip
teresa_k, May 2023
We had a very informative trip with Frank an excellent guide and Luna the driver of a very clean, comfortable air conditioned bus. Everything was well organised and at Chichen Itza the English speaking guide Rodriquez was informative and funny. Lunch was excellent, altogether well worth it
Response from Host, May 2023
Dear teresa_k Frank and Luna will be pleased to know how much you enjoyed this adventure! Thanks for letting us know your feedback, it truly means a lot to us. Mariana, Amigo tours
Very time consuming
Rakesh_M, May 2023
I spent almost 15 hours for this tour. Ideally this tour should not take more than 8 hours. Hotel pick up was great but wasted time visiting places with almost no value to most visitors. I was not told that I can pay local tax at Chichen-Itaza once we reach there. I had to give all my cash :-(
Response from Host, May 2023
Dear Rakesh_M We are sorry that the experience was not fully to your liking. The local tax information is stated on your voucher even before you book the activity. Thanks for letting us know your feedback, it means a lot to us. Mariana, Amigo tours

TOURIST TRAP
AlessioDemartis, May 2023
This tour was meant to be a tourist trap from the beginning till the end. While it is useful if you want to visit Chichen Itzà and at least a cenote, you should really pay attention to what the guide says. First of all, our guide Frank was nice but not really engaging. He was repeating stuff wihtout a lot of emphasis and asking questions without really waiting for an answer, but that's not an issue. The issue is the amount of information shared so that we would fall into tourist traps. Here they are: 1. First stop in Pisté. In the bus he will tell you several times how the Maya have not disappeared, they are still there and their economy is now based on tourism, to prep you up on spending your money. So the first stop, BEFORE Chichen Itzà, is literally a shop with the most EXPENSIVE prices you will ever see in Mexico. Literally. Just know that in Chichen Itzà you will find way too many vendors who have prices that are much lower than that, also because they don't pay any rent (even if he says to "pay attention" to those vendors... what you should really pay attention to is that shop). But this is not a rent issue: the same knife that in the shop was priced 1800 pesos, I bought in Chichen Itzà for 400!!! Their t-shirts priced at 500 pesos, can be found at Mercado 28 in Cancún for 40 pesos!!! Abusive. 2. On the way to Chichen Itzà, he will show you a Maya calendar that you can get once you get there if you order through him (of course). He will tell you that this organization works with the Unicef to build housing for the local Maya communities, but there was no mention or logo nor on the purchased calendar, nor on their little office at the entrance of Chichen Itzà. Nor I can find information on the Internet. Of course, the price is stellar. 3. Throughout the tour on the bus, he will mention that Mayas inventend chocolate, particulary chocolate with chili (in Mexico, duh). And look at that, the stop in Valladolid (which lasts only 30 minutes) is right beside the Museum of Chocolate, where you can buy mediocre chocolate for not cheap prices. Little side note: chocolate is believed to have been discovered by Olmecs, who were Aztecans. Mayas only arrived centuries later. I knew that this tour was heavily tourist-oriented, but this is a complete scam.
Response from Host, May 2023
Dear AlessioDemartis We are sorry that the activity did not meet your expectations. We will keep your feedback in mind to improve the experience. Thanks for taking the time to rate us, we sincerely appreciate it. Mariana, Amigo tours

Great excursion, with a few suggestions
Rami_A, May 2023
All-in-all this was a great excursion. The guide Juan "Juam" was quite entertaining and the driver Fernando was great as well. Juan explained the historic and cultural backgrounds of the places we were going to see before we got there. He also pointed out and told the story of specific locations at Chichen Itza. This is a loooong excursion. People in Cancun started at 8. We started at 9 from Playa del Carmen. We were back around 9 PM. The people in Cancun still had an hour to go. Keep that in mind and plan accordingly. We barely passed by Valladolid. I would have liked to hang out there a bit instead of the subpar coffee break at a probably "partner" establishment to the tour. It felt like wasted time. Even at that "artisan" shop, do not buy anything for full price. You can find the same stuff (obsidian or cheap stuff or hand-made stuff) at Chichen Itza and you can bargain more there. Chichen Itza was great. We had one hour guided tour and one hour free, which felt enough. Lunch: The food at lunch was quite good. Cenote: The life jacket you have to rent, but it wasn't much. We didn't get a locker. Just take your bag to the lower dock with you. If the guy says you have to leave it on the upper dock, wait until he is not looking. Other people took their stuff before us, so I did as well. The swim in the Cenote was amazing. It was not a crowded cenote, but it definitely wasn't a subpar one. Suggestions: 1- It would have been nice for the tour to provide a cooler with water and soft drinks for the road, instead of us relying on small insulated containers for water. 2- Include the Chichen Itza fee in the tour price (even if it is raised). You have to pay 36.5 USD each (fee + card processing fee, as they don't allow cash payment for some reason) 3- Include at least soft drinks and water in the lunch buffet. People can pay extra for beer and alcohol if they want. 4- Either make the coffee break decent (it felt way too cheap, just to make us stop at that affiliate marketplace) or replace it with a coffee stop in Valladolid so we can see the church at least.
Response from Host, May 2023

The best part of this experience was the four guide Juan Marin and his knowledge of the Mayans. Thank you for all that you shared with us. Last but not least thank you Jorge for the safe travels.

Awesome! Safe! You should go!
Jennifer_S, May 2023
Juan was THE BEST tour guide! Very personable and knowledgable. He made silly jokes to keep everyone on their toes. I also thought it was very cool that he himself was Mayan, made the experience that much better. Our driver was Jorge and he was also very good and kept us going through the long day! The transfer car was on time to pick us up from our hotel, then we met with the whole group on the large buss which did have a toilet/charger station/ac. I will say the food was about average, not bad though. The cenote and site were so surreal to see. Will always have great memories with it. Thank you amigo tours! I will recommend this tour to everyone!

Tour guide didn't show up. I waited outside in the heat for 2 hours, while calling Viator and chatting with support and attempting to contact the driver. The driver never answered or communicated with me at all Viator still hasn't refunded me.

Guided tour was great and totally recommend it. They picked us up on time and communicated well. Our guide Beto was amazing and kept us interested in the stories with good sense of humor. Breakfast of bread and coffee was okay, lunch was good with a lot of options. Had enough time for pictures and buy souveniers. Overall a very good experience. Thanks again Beto..!!

Have potential
Kristina_G, May 2023
The tequila tasting experience was not the opportunity to taste the beverage but only encouraging us to make a purchase, which I find difficult to call tasting or degustation. Furthermore, the number of samples provided during the testing was limited to only three. Both of our guys were very pushy approaching us to write only positive comments which is concerning since constructive criticism can be instrumental in the improvement of the overall experience. Apart from these concerns, the remainder of the experience was good.
Response from Host, May 2023
Dear Kristina_G We are sorry that the tequila tasting was not to your liking, we will do our best to improve this. Thank you very much for letting us know your feedback, it means a lot to us. Mariana, Amigo tours
loved it!

Chichen Itza Very Impressive!
Michael_J, May 2023
The Chichen Itza tour was great and to see it up close was very impressive. Frank and Rodrigo were great tour guides, very communicative and detailed while explaining the history of the Chichen Itza.
Zero downsides, all up!
Aloise_R, May 2023
Hands down the best tour we have ever been on. Our two guides were incredible, they had humour, insight, and made the day go so smoothly. Can't forget our driver getting us around safely and on time. If there's one tour you do from Cancun make it this one. You split into two groups to tour Chichen Itza with a guide each and I highly recommend it. Plenty of time to explore and take photos. The buffet was great, so much selection and really high quality food. The cenote was a magical place and the most beautiful one we went to.
Tourist Trap
Becca_M, May 2023
I generally don't do group travel - I've lived overseas (and in developing countries). However, I signed up for this day-tour with my 2 kids (ages 8 and 11) in early March 2023. The worst part was our "English"-speaking guide at Chichen Itza. He simply did not have a strong grasp of the language... nor had he really practiced the tour much. He had great difficulty trying to explain the history and concepts. I took to listening in to nearby official guides in the park who REALLY knew their stuff and seemed to be leading fast-paced and well-informed tours. The next worst part of the tour was the god-awful buffet lunch at a tourist trap lunch stop. Seriously, it was the worst meal of our vacation (!). We were forced to watch sales pitches and drink chartreuse-colored and anise-flavored hooch. Seriously. The bus was new and comfortable. That's all I got.
