What To Expect

Your historic plantation tour departs mid‐day from the French Quarter. Settle into a comfortable seat on the air‐conditioned coach and prepare for a journey back to the Old South, before the American Civil War shook the foundation of plantation‐life. Enjoy lively onboard commentary from your guide as you trace the shoreline of Lake Pontchartrain and Great River Road en route to Oak Alley Plantation, one of the most photographed plantations ever.

Upon arrival, stroll though a postcard‐perfect canopy of 28 knotty oak trees – each over 250 years old! – that line the promenade to the mansion. Built in 1839, the ‘Big House’ is a perfectly restored example of antebellum elegance and Greek Revival architecture. Your knowledgeable guides, donning period costumes, will provide colorful commentary about the estate and some of its former inhabitants. Tour the opulent rooms of this classic southern home that has been the setting for Interview with a Vampire and Primary Colors, then continue on your own to wander the enchanting grounds or grab a refreshment in the cafe and ice cream parlor (own expense). Then relax as your coach returns to the French Quarter, arriving by late‐afternoon.

Have to visit
Denise_C, May 2023
Our tour guide, Tony, did an excellent job of explaining the history of the plantation. It was a great experience!
Better coach needed
Pritesh_M, May 2023
Good tour guide and travel times. It’s a shame the coach they use is a little dated and not so comfortable
Honor comes from knowing the past..
Luz_B, May 2023
The story of the Roman family is so rich with history. The place was absolutely beautiful- and those trees - hauntingly eerie but so unique! It's good to know that the place is being maintained and opened for the public to appreciate the richness of its past Era. I think we in this present generation need to know and value the lessons of the past. We should honor those lessons and learn from them.
Beautiful historic site....
Geoff_G, May 2023
Beautiful historic site. Our your guide Aimee was awesome. Be sure to try a mint julep. The gift shop and restaurant are great for picking up some souvenirs and grab a quick bite.
Kin our bus driver/tour...
Latoya_W, May 2023
Kin our bus driver/tour guide did an excellent job of making the trip to and back quite the experience. It was wonderful to have someone who knew the city as well as he did. The plantation and it's splendor were well worth the 90 minute trip there. We will definitely be visiting another plantation to compare when next we are in New Orleans.
Good tour but the best part was the driver
Marija_F, May 2023
The best part of the tour was the driver, such a warm and joyful person. The tour itself was mostly good with an exception of the guided tour in the mansion at the Oak Alley. The tour was very superficial and barely focused on the experience of the enslaved people at the plantation. And it also was quite rushed.
Informative
Maria_L, May 2023
Plantation tour and independent tour of slave quarters and exhibits. Tour guide was very knowledgeable about history and recommendations of restaurants was beneficial.
Oak Alley
Anne_E, May 2023
Driver George, claims wasn’t a tour guide, did an excellent job driving us and explaining things. Before Covid I understand you were able to visit the kitchen and the 3rd floor. Not any more. The grounds and house we’re both beautiful
Interesting piece of history
Pennie_P, May 2023
Would recommend to anyone interested in southern history. The grounds are very spacious and green. Wish we could take pictures inside but they don't allow it.
Oak Tree Plantation Tour
aileen_w, May 2023
The oak trees, the mansion tour (Jackie was excellent), the exhibits — interesting and informative. BUT, I wish we could have had one more hour there to visit the blacksmith exhibit, enjoy a mint julep, and stroll leisurely through the entire property. With only two hours, we felt rushed.
Blue line just ok
Linda_G, May 2023
The plantation was great and the guide was really good. The bus driver on the grey line not so much. She didn’t keep us informed and seemed in a rush to get it over with. Told us she would pick us up afterwards at 3:30 and at 3:31 she was driving out of the parking lot. People started yelling to stop because they could see one person trying to make it.
Plantation review
Sara_R, May 2023
Friendly informative tour guide. The bus driver didn’t speak until we arrived at the plantation.. She drove entirely too fast. Highly recommend the tour but not Grey bus line
MY EXPERIENCE: Confronting, Rewarding, Responsible, Timely ... Well Done
Rowena_R, May 2023
The narration by the guide ... Photos ... I could "wax Lyrical" about my experience ... I'd rather not ... It was moving as an African American ... Thank You.
Oak Alley Plantation Tour In All Its Beauty and Pain
John_F, May 2023
We did a trip to Oak Alley with Kendrell of Gray Line Tours. He was a great tour guide with lots of stories, interesting facts along the way, and humorous observations. The plantation is beautiful as well as disturbing. Be sure to see the slave quarters as it puts the beauty of the Big House and landscaping into its proper perspective.
Great tour

Plantation life
Mary_C, May 2023
Our guide in the Plantation mansion was excellent. She presented the facts and shared interesting details and was available for questions . I think her name was Jackie. The bus driver was Kindrell and he was fabulous! Funny, knowledgeable .
Great afternoon at Oak Alley Plantation
Virginia_C, May 2023
Oak Alley plantation was a beautiful place to visit. Our guide in the home gave us a very good idea how life was back in the 1830s to 50. Our bus driver was very good even though he wasn’t a guide he gave us a good exclamation and history, of the different plantations along the river road.
Take a photo from the outside and move on!
EssdrasM_S, May 2023
I have a photo workshop company. I booked a tour for 8 people because I recalled Oak Alley being very photogenic. The last time I was at the plantation was several years back and I remember having gotten photos of the lady in the big period gown inside the house and during the one-hour presentation. This time around, there were no photos allowed inside, no dressed-up guides and the tour was a rushed-half-hour tour. If you are not going to allow photos inside, then make it obvious on your site otherwise is misleading advertisement.
Oak Alley Tour Review
SharonGrover, May 2023
Great driver! He determined to make our trip enjoyable —and he succeeded. The driver had a great sense of humor and also added many interesting details about plantation living and the surrounding area.
