Overview

Experience New Orleans’ wild bayou country on an exciting, family‐friendly airboat ride. This boat tour winds through the mossy cypress swamp close to Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, named for the 19th‐century pirate and smuggler. While onboard, enjoy lively commentary from a native guide as you admire lush, forested shoreline and spot local wildlife. Both self-drive and hotel pickup options are available, and hotel pickups begin 75 minutes prior to tour time.

***Pickups start 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to tour time.*** Please be outside or near the main entrance where you have a visible line of sight of the designated transportation area. The driver will be picking up from multiple stops in a 30 minute window. If the bus is not there at first, please keep an eye out for a white shuttle bus with a red logo. Note: THIS TOUR DOES NOT INCLUDE TRANSPORTATION UNLESS YOU SELECT THE OPTION WITH TRANSPORT.

What To Expect

Choose a morning or afternoon tour and meet your airboat at the embarkation point in the town of Lafitte, an historic fishing village named for notorious 19th‐century pirate and privateer Jean Lafitte, located approximately 30 miles (48 km) from New Orleans. Prearranged coach pickup is also available from your downtown New Orleans or French Quarter hotel. Hotel pickups begin 75 minutes prior to your chosen tour time.  

Upon arriving at the airboat launch site, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers. Hold on tight as your airboat takes off into the tidewater cypress swamp near Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Enjoy close proximity to the water from your seat in the flat‐bottomed airboat. As you zip through the bayou, check out signature cypress trees dripping with moss and massive tupelo‐gum tree rising straight from the water. 

Depending on the season, you may spot alligators basking in sun on the shore or lurking in the water. Rest assured that the swamps are teeming with wildlife year‐round. Spot turtles, snakes, raccoons, nutria and many native birds –  you may even spot a bald eagle!

Your airboat tour ends at the embarkation point. Before leaving this iconic Cajun town, pop into the local albino alligator exhibit or grab a delectable shrimp Po' boy to go (own expense). Then drive or board your coach back to New Orleans. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick‐up or drop‐off unless hotel pickup and drop‐off is selected at checkout. If you have selected hotel pickup and drop‐off please specify your hotel details at the time of checkout or advise the local operator directly after booking.

Cpt. Tik Tok was guide and he was phenomenal. It was such a beautiful day and we were fortunate that the wildlife were out and available. We saw, gators, owls, raccoons, and ducks all while sippin on a daiquiri and being splashed with swamp water. The experience was immersive and enjoyable. Will definitely do it again and likely will bring the family! It’s worth it.

I went on this airboat ride with my husband and son, and we had a great time, despite some light rain. Our tour operator was really fun and informative (I cannot remember his name, but he was a young man in his 20s). We got to see several gators and beautiful views. My 11-year-old son had so much fun!

The pickup from the hotel worked flawlessly. The driver was charming. Check-in at the departure place was easy and efficient. The ride itself was great. Ramon, our guide, was very knowledgeable regarding wildlife and local history. He was also very considerate and made sure, all guests got a good view of the animals and plants, regardless of where they sat in the boat. Great combination of wildlife events and speedy parts. Definitely recommend this trip!!!

I suggest you bring a hat! The Sun in the bayou is hot. But it was a great experience. I wish we could see more gators but I understand sometimes they hide. I really wished they feed the gators more hot dogs so we could see them more. They only feed 2 . Overall it was fun

It was a good experience. Lasted roughly 2 hours, but felt it could’ve been shorter. Saw plenty of alligators, but outside of that there weren’t many animals. I think if it was shorter and we had gone in the morning when it wasn’t so hot 🥵 would have made the experience better. Otherwise, no complaints. Would recommend anyone trying this experience.

We were a little skeptical since we often avoid touristy activities but this was fabulous! Ronnie ( boat captain) kept us laughing and engaged. TikTok was the best captain and Jeff was the best bud driver. Booked the small boat with pickup. Was picked up and dropped off door to door to my hotel. There’s a waiting area when you get to the dock where you can order drinks. I grabbed a beer until it was time to go. TikTok was all about cruising on such a nice day out. We were able to see at least 11 alligators. What I didn’t know was how much gators love marshmellows which we got to feed and also hotdogs. This trip was recommended to me by a friend and whether you’re in a group or by yourself like I was would 100% recommend and I would even go again myself. Thank you!

If you are looking for a swamp airboat tour, look no further, this is it! The small boat tour was absolutely amazing! We got to race along the water and go into small passageways to see the alligators, birds, trees, plants, etc. Our guide was very informative and even fed and interacted with the alligators so we could see them up close. It was such a privilege to be able to see this special ecosystem. I highly recommend this tour!
